Hi, I’m Ernest.
I'm a design professional, typographer, and educator working at the intersection of typography, culture, and user experience, trained as both a designer (MFA, Iowa State) and a researcher (MS, Human-Computer Interaction, Iowa State). That combination shapes how I work: I treat type not just as a visual system but as a carrier of cultural meaning, and I bring the same rigor to how a design is experienced as to how it looks.
My practice spans print, digital, and web, and has taken me from collaborating with international marketing teams to teaching art and English in Jiangxi Province, China. A year into academia, I'm continuing that work in the classroom, where I teach graphic design to emerging designers, develop coursework on typography and design fundamentals, and continue researching typography as a tool for cultural preservation.
I care about design that connects rather than just communicates, and about making design education more inclusive along the way. Outside the studio, you'll usually find me running (3X marathon PB 3:45), exploring a new city, or in the boxing gym.
Feel free to explore my portfolio and reach out - I’d love to connect.
